A definitive & vital masterpiece of jazz. In fact the only possible negative to speak of might be that 16 absolute pedigree tracks could be lost of the attention spans of some younger listeners... Duke effortlessly jumps from conventional to pure abstraction; with the first remaining soulful yet earthy & strong, the latter finding similar space to the electronic experimentations of Raymond Scott some 20 years earlier (check 'Manya' & 'Nigerian Numberuma'). Mind blowing drums from Dick Berk, with Duke cranking the Rhodes into vibrophonic overdrive. In all, conceived by the cream of 1970's musicianship, yet occasionally way ahead of its time both sonically & in structure, like it was produced in the 90's era of ambient electronics. Pure witchcraft!

My Re issue copy is quite disappointing. Bought it sealed. First record plays with many crackles and distortions during some passages and Is generally very flat sounding . Second record plays okay. Anyone with a similar experience? Great music though !!

This wonderful album leaves you with pure disgust for the music industry. The last years can be recapitulated as "rerelease mania" with every third class punk band being repressed on vinyl, Madonna on RSD ("limited 4500 copies") und all the other flea market stuff, you just can't take any longer. George Duke's incredible "The Inner Source" has not seen a proper treatment more than 40 years later. Boys and girls: pay the 40 or 50 bucks for a used copy, you will not regret it. I promise.
