From amongs few Godflesh releases I've heard that one is the best yet - only "Hymns" is better IMO. When I first play it and song "Messiah" attacked my ears, I thought: "same, old Godflesh". But it was only first track. Next one is totally different - heavy guitar riffs don't smashed our ears that much and d'n'b beat play key role. Remember, that was recorded in 1994 - for that time it was something amazing to mix guitar riffs with techno-based beat. Next songs are rather similar, but the best ones are remixes. "Messiah Dub" turns hateful original into melancholic, dub kind of stuff (and it's the only "dub" remix which REALLY sounds like "dub" remix). Thought "Wilderness of Mirrors" and "Sungod" are sufficient electronic in original, remixes don't change the sound too much - only adds more beats, effects and so. The last one, "Scapegoat Dub" is worth to buy the record alone. 4 minutes long original was stretched into 9 minutes long, total hardcore dark drum'n'bass. One of the best remixes and also best d'n'b tracks I've heard.
Godflesh "swan song", "Messiah" proves that they were one of the most important groups on teh independent british scene - a link, which connect metal-noise scene with techno scene.
