Front to back genius on this one. The production is like Conny Plank level; somehow everything sounds off the cuff and polished all at once. I wouldn't be surprised if Holger Czukay was on the couch in the stood eating delicious trader joes' peanut butter pretzels and going "OHHHHH!" every time Gregory or Errol basically turned on a drum mic, and it was GOOD and placed perfectly, or they turned on a bass amp and "what do you know, the tone is already there, let's lay this down Flabba" or maybe someone in a diver's helmet knocked on the studio door, and he'd brought Gregory a guitar from a shipwreck that hadn't been played in ten years and Gregory took it out of the dusty case covered in seaweed, plugged it in, gave it a strum, and it was still in perfect tune. "OOOOHHHHH!!"

These sessions must have been MAGIC. I would give anything to have been Flabba laying down some bass and then looking up to see Gregory smiling at me, telling me how proud he was of me and my basswork, and that I'll always be his friend.

Then you have Gregory Isaacs himself, and his greatest instrument, his wife material voice. I've read some reviews on allmusic or something about how he wasn't a great vocalist; this is FALSE. Who cares about his range? Gregory Isaacs is not a stovetop... he is the STUFFING. Every word he speaks is true. He's a stranger in your town. Cool down the pace, because the pain is getting worse for this material man, the hot stepper. Omg, the piano on 'hot stepper'. Holger's like "OOOOOOH!" Objection? Overruled.

5 out of 5 ***PURE MOLTEN LAVA***
