Lost gem of a golden era hip hop album. Solid beats and grooves, skilled and hard-hitting rhyming, decent lyrics. There's something lovably unpolished about the whole thing, it's pure hip hop, not overproduced at all. There's a lot of passion and enthusiasm for making hip hop here, you can hear it consistently throughout the album. Occasionally there's a bit of an EPMD sound to Greyson's voice and style. I think the reason this album didn't become a bigger hit (or a hit at all, really) is the graphic design. Whether it was Bob Defrin at Atlantic, or the group themselves, the choice of photo and style of design is really not helpful in getting across to the average hip hop listener exactly what this album is about. The cover looks like a New Jack cover, or some sort of smooth R&B club joint; it could easily have been a Father MC sleeve, or Bobby Brown. It really doesn't suit the songs on here at all. Hopefully more fans of golden era hip hop will check this out and look past the image.
