Had long been waiting for a quality slice of 1970 Guru Guru. Apart from some rather low-fi recordings that circulated on cassettes many years ago, the closest was the 1972 recordings from the HOT ON SPOT release, and a couple of shorter pieces on THE BEST OF AX GENRICH. We always knew that the 1970 Guru Guru were one of the most extraordinary of live acts, and now we have the proof. With ust three classic tracks: Stone In, Der
LSD-Marsch, and the ever irreverent Bo Diddley. This is one big sizzler of a release. The only drawback is that the engineer had the drums too loud, and whilst this means we can clearly hear Mani's drum work in all its flowery nimbleness, the music does sometimes feel a little swamped.
No need to say more really, as those into Guru Guru know what great music to expect, and those that don't will find it an excellent introduction to the classic Guru Guru sound.
