Guy Gerber's debut LATE BLOOMERS kicks off with the melodic rapture of "The State of Change" before it shifts into the moodier title track. The shorter groove of "Unfulfilled" feels like he's drawn a veil over a pop song, but the thicker bass of "Are U Naked?" brings things firmly onto the floor. Electro takes over "Belly Dancing," while a burbling energy settles into "Sea Of Sand." "Persona Non Grata" slows the tempo down for a spell, altering some vocals to suggest a woozy, blurry feel before "Seagull" brushes up against the disco to get things moving again. But as it segues into the upbeat bubbling of "Moody Samba," Gerber returns to traditional tech-house, particularly with the vocal samples and half-hearted rap of "2 Birds 1 Stoned." "Last Frequency" closes out the album on a more thoughtful note, with a hypnotic groove punctuated with a melody that percolates throughout. It's never too late to pick up this bloom...
