UK 1st press (A1U/B1U & A1U/B2U).
Subsequent pressings (A1U/B4U & A2U/B4U), have a different label layout, please see X In Search Of Space.

This release has an innovative 8-page, 3-fold die-cut heavy card sleeve. Opened out, it forms a 'T' shape. This shape is printed black & white on inside and full-color on reverse.

When the lower page is folded up (to contain the liner) the sleeve then takes the form of a 6-page triptych - with the die-cut tab & slot linking together at the center. When locked 'closed' the liner/vinyl can still be inserted via the top opening.

The back cover has a blurred shot of Stacia dancing on-stage, with text that encapsulates the essence of the work:
"Technicians of Space Ship Earth
This is Your Captain Speaking
Your Captain is Dead"

"Printed and made by the E. J. Day Group, London and Bedford".

[The inside spread photos include members of The Pink Fairies].

The package also contains an A4, 24-page 'Log Book', packed with the minutiae of the band's 'flight' through space & time. This 'Log' is printed black on white 'newspaper-quality' paper.

Produced at Olympic Studios, Barnes. Track B2 first recorded at Air Studios.

All copies have 'In search of space' on the spine and labels. A graphic designer adding something does make the title change. It is ludicrous that you listing this with an 'X' prefix. If the correct title is 'X In search..' then the various companies have had over 40 years to correct the label and spine titles. They haven't ! Why-cos 'X In search..AIN'T the title. There are myriad examples of the cover title being different to the label etc but you don't change the titles in other listings. Fantasy.

Music doesn't get better than 'You Shouldn't Do That'. Truly an exceptional album.
Just a shame they were tripping their rocks off when they mixed it :).

I would say that the first is of pale blue printing.
But certainly black is the latter edition that are after the colour variants.

The "log book" came in two versions. The original version was printed in a dark blue on the cover and was an old style "British" sized paper folded booklet. Later versions were the newer "continental" sized paper folded booklet and the print colour had changed from a dark blue to green tinge. An early British pressing should have the dark blue larger sized booklet.
