HECTOR (RIVERA) -- Waiting To Go On -- hard to find, original 1979 U.S. album. Surprisingly strong (and still overlooked) late 1970's private press Rock album with Downer Folk-Psych vibe. Side A is made up entirely of introspective songs with just the singer and acoustic guitar; numbers like "Chrissong", "Waiting To Go On" and esp. "You Are The Sun" (from Side B) have a kind of hushed, Nick Drake-like beauty that's very effective. The second side opens up musically-speaking with electric guitar and drums on tunes like "When I Dream," "i May be Crazy" and "No Water." Lyrics throughout are very personal and fairly obscure/impenetrable; overall vibe sounds closer to a DIY record from the early 1970's. Artist's full name is apparently Hector Rivera; he may be related to the Latin soul legend of the same name. On back cover album is "respectfully dedicated to Mr. Richard Wagner," which just adds to the overall weirdness. Great, freaky-ass cover art looks like it fell off a Parliament-Funkadelic record.
