Heldon ‎– Heldon IV "Agneta Nilsson"

Genre:
Style:
Year:
Notes:
Heldon's 4th LP defined a new style that was developed on the Cobra label LP's. The originally planned 26 minute side II, as shown on the back cover of the Urus LP, never existed as the cutting engineer ran out of space. Spalax CD reissues were taken from vinyl. The best and most authentic CD issue known is the 2nd Cuneiform pressing.

from my article "From the land of Schizo and beyond..." in Audion 23 (Nov.1992)
HELDON IV: AGNETA NILSSON (apparently named after Richard's girlfriend) offered a much more complex and richly musical concoction, not only due to Richard's new toy: The Big Moog, but also due to the sheer length and intensity of the album: Perspective I with its menacing looping aura, rich wedges of mellotron and filtered electronic sound, Perspective III with extremely pacey bass sequencer and distant demented guitar, and let's not forget what is probably the definitive piece of Heldon: Perspective IV, a 21+ minute improvisation featuring Coco Roussell, Patrick Gauthier and Alain Bellaiche. Again there is a curiosity here: Intermede & Bassong by a duo of Michel Ettori and Gerard Prevost.

p.s. Agneta later became Richard's wife.

A quote from my Spalax new release news in Audion magazine #25 (June 1993)...
those awaiting the CD reissue of Heldon's AGNETA NILSSON will be pleased to know that it is now out (14227), yet I must give a word of warning (and this is obviously the reason for the delay in its release) that this is not a complete reproduction of the LP! Actually it sounds as though all the four tracks from side 1 are taken from a record! Perspective 1 and Perspective 3 both fade in and out to avoid notable groove noise, and quite ashamedly only 1'33" of the original 2'58" Intermede & Bassong is included! Perspective 4, at 21'47", could also be from an LP, though I can't hear any groove noise. A pity the tapes seem to have been lost as I was hoping to have my Heldon collection complete on CD, yet my LP sounds just as good (maybe better) and is over 3 minutes longer!
