Terneuzen is not the first thing you think when you hear bluegrass city. Still, in the hands of Herman Brock Jr., it seems like this music not originated in the hills of Kentucky but on the banks of the Westerschelde. Brock sings that he was born in ' the lowest country of all, sixteen feet below sea, guarded by a wall '. So he brings, assisted by a host of Dutch bluegrassmuzikanten (The Blue Grass Boogiemen) these roots music again firmly back to the old world. The country also figures prominent in the songs My Old Hometown, Other Side Of The Creek and The Flying Dutchman's Curse on the doomed captain of the Flying Dutchman of whom most inhabitants of Terneuzen is still the birth House. On a musical level choose guitarist and mandolin player Brock both for lightning-fast instrumental piece as more reflective songs with a bluesy gasp in the voice. Highly recommended for the many lovers of American roots music.
