For me personally, 1996 was the last year of quality Happy Hardcore (Bouncy Techno for the UK punters), there was a number of good releases in 1996, this is one of them.

The Hyperbass Anthem is the track most people would know (although Hixxy is the only one I know who played it), starting off like a piano house track, it literally explodes into an uptempo Happy Hardcore track. I spoke to David "Copey" Copeland in 2000-ish through the old Evolution Records website about it, he said he tried to make it sound like Jiiieehaaaa by Diss Reaction. He also mentioned that the track took only a few hours to complete. Based on this information, I have a better appreciation of the Hyperbass Anthem.

My favourite track, however, is Hardcore Domain. Similar to the Hyperbass Anthem, its clocking in at 180-190 bpm. I particularly like the synth riffs in this track. The kick is slightly more harder but uniquely Scottish and works well with the synth riffs. The track rolls along quite nicely and doesn't get boring. Most Evolution Gold releases had a "Scott Brown Remix", it would have been nice to see Hardcore Domain get the Scott Brown treatment.

Terminal Velocity is a similar track to Hardcore Domain, but its riffs aren't as good and borders on generic Bouncy Techno. The other thing I don't like about it is the weak kick, its noticeable compared to the other two tracks, its almost irritating. Although the EG with its "hypnotic" arrows, almost make up for those minor issues!

Several years later, it was nice to see David finally work with Scott Brown. David mentioned that Stuart McNiven had very little to do with the production of this record. Although Scott Brown and Davie Forbes get the credit for good Happy Hardcore, I felt Hyperbass deserved a mention as well.
