When this came out in 2001 it turned heads. ‘A New Beginning’ was an apt title as the two members who started their Compost recordings as ‘Supersempft’ changed their name to Intuit. The track ‘A New Beginning’ itself starts with Rhodes keys and vibes and arhh arhh girly vocals and builds with a bit of synth funk cave dripping noises and spacey lyrics (good performance by Cécile Verny on vocals). The track ‘A New Beginning’ itself starts with Rhodes keys and vibes and arhh arhh girly vocals and builds with a bit of synth funk cave dripping noises and spacey lyrics (good performance by Cécile Verny on vocals). You can spot the inspirations and no doubt how they managed to get the likes of Doug Carn, Airto, Flora, Andy Bey, Ray Obiedo to sign up for the album. Smart move. ‘O Preguiçoso’ is an uptempo flutey trombone samba jazz dancer. ‘Wewa’ is more afro-beat and is seriously funky. ‘Supersempft Baby’ finishes off the EP with a bit of vocoda (“you are the one baby”) and 80’s soul-disco feel. Money well spent on this one.
