Widely regarded as the best of the early Jade Warrior albums, "Last Autumn's Dream" is their definitive effort, regarding of their maturity and versatility as well, even though it stands alone as one of the best "Proto-progressive works" of the seventies, in the UK. Their line-up was made with a five piece, including Alan Price on drums and Dave Duhig on guitar, but unlike its predecessor, this album was more in the vein of their debut album, along with some remarkable tunes such as "Lady of the Lake", "Winter's Tale" and "May Queen" - whose composition combines such an Oriental music stuff, within a rock apparatus...recommended as an original work, perhaps a bit simplistic, but always fresh!

This release suffers from channels being out of phase and Azimuth failures as reported from several sources. At a first listen the stereo channels seem to be switched.

It's the same recipe on this third effort, but as it mostly tastes well, why change? Raucous hard-rock contrasts with meditative spacey episodes, flute as always to the fore, we know this. New is the increase of mixtures within the same song. Like etherical flute over sombre and rolling rhythms in ''Dark river'', or a touch of Hendrix over rhythmical contrasts in ''Joanne''. Even the soaring guitar can be the meditative element, as happens in ''Obedience'', a song with a decidedly uncool title. African rhythms bear a frolicking flute and a cutting fuzz guitar in ''May queen''. A slight step foreward is a step forward too. Compared with later albums for Island this still sounds adventurous, and thus better. Only the monotonous ''The demon trucker'', chosen for a single release nonetheless, does not keep the high standard up.
