Supraphon Release Information

Two of Jan Burian’s remarkable collective albums, re-released to commemorate his anniversary!

At the time of its release, the end of the 1980s, Hodina duchů (The Witching Hour) was a generally lauded project, blending songs and the contemporary studio technology. The producer Dan Fikejz helped to find poetics surprisingly supporting the machinery and they are still fully functional today. The album was thus a sonically attractive yet intimate testimony to the artist’s great troubles and little joys towards the twilight of real socialism.

The album Poesie (Poetry), recorded a few years previously, was a seemingly venturous undertaking. Again quite amply employing electronic devices, but the lyrics by Czech poets – Biebl, Halas, Šrámek, Brousek, Dyk, Wernisch, Frič, Gellner, Hiršal (and Burian + Dědeček) – by no means drowned in the noise of the machines, with the composer and singer Jan Burian meeting this poetic challenge with zest and mastery.

Two superlative albums with a booklet containing all the lyrics and packed together in a comely sleeve.
