An album of material's worth, stepping away from the "earliness" of "Adolescent Sex", a hard (rock) lesson learned and left in obscurity despite its availability to the present day... On "Obscure Alternatives", the group matures musically, free of insecurities or forced eclecticism - this time, if The New York Dolls were one of the ideals to compete with, Japan managed to catch up with it to great effect, resulting in avant-garde material that definitely won't sit in the ear on first listen, but after a few more it will continue to reward.
