TranceOnThePorch

TranceOnThePorch

June 1, 2015
The odds are you heard this release from Paul Oakenfold's "Essential Selection Vol. 1" mix. It's an obscure A-side that had little attention outside of Oakey's championing "Excursion" as the lead track to that mix, and fell into few crates. "Excursion" does, though, have one of the most enthralling intros ever- a recording of the New York City ABC morning news weathercast on Thanksgiving morning, 1998, echoing into the background as the melody synth comes in. The song, otherwise, is traditional late 1990s trance fare, as is the rest of the release. Not cheesy, no hands-in-the-air riffs, and more dark than most trance releases of the era, but obscure enough to have largely been removed from memory in the ensuing years.
