A very interesting, and for its time quite forward thinking, release from Jeff Mills, which compiles some of his most interesting work on Axis Records up to then.
To start with, it is much more intricate, layered, thus requesting repeated and more careful listening to properly appreciate than his strictly DJ friendly Purpose Maker stuff. Don't be fooled though, despite the fact most of these tunes are not *that* obviously dance floor killers, some of them have left permanent marks in many a DJ sets world wide, and Jeff himself has countless times dropped them under the needle and proved that even his more cerebral and experimental work can work out to great extent at parties.
My favorites would be i9, Humana and Growth, which are three pretty linear and minimal builders, with not much variety but a solid dose of groove, then Man From Tomorrow and Solarized, which are well ahead of their time, and only hint at Mills' later spaced out ambinet minimalism. Gateway Of Zen, Medua and Gamma Player, which are all widely known and loved party numbers... All in all, this compilation encompasses some of Jeff Mills' most visionary work ever, and is well worth your time and money. A classic it may be not (yet), but I'm pretty confident with the "essential" sticker here.
