Supraphon Release Information

In the spring of 2011, Jiří Schelinger fans commemorated two anniversaries: 60 years since the musician’s birth and 30 since his tragic death!

This compilation bears the name of one of the artist’s songs, while the numerical secondary title refers to his life data and the year of the release of his earliest recording. Pavel Víšek has succeeded in putting together a 3 CD set comprising the maximum of hits and interesting discoveries.

The first disc bears witness to Jiří’s artistry as regards Czech bubblegum pop, as well as film and dance, repertoire, naturally including the most famous songs. The second CD presents Schelinger as a composer of music which includes, perhaps surprisingly for many, songs as vital as Nemám hlas jako zvon, Kartágo, Lucrezia Borgia, Jahody mražený and Lupič Willy. The third disc showcases the singer as a masterful performer of pieces by the likes of Mungo Jerry, the Beatles, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, provides the partially reconstructed project Zemětřesení, and even features curiosities, such as Schelinger singing soul in a bar. The booklet comprises a short biography, an interview with the artist’s brother and a number of precious photographs.

Although dreaming about and loving hardrock, he did many other genres with aplomb, too. Schelinger was a star, but one who never succumbed to his fame and let it all go to his head. He was loved; he himself loved, and sang splendidly about it. The present compilation offers several dozen instances of proof in this regard.

Jiří Schelinger 1971-1981: a decade replete with unforgettable music!
