While Watley's "Looking For A New Love" was finally enjoying crossover success at US top 40 radio outlets, the follow-up, "Still A Thrill," with its own unique, funky vibe ended up being the real key to cementing the huge success that Watley's first solo album ended up becoming. Unlike "New Love," with its fun, but very transparent copy of Janet Jackson's self-empowered style, "Thrill" gave Watley a song that had a sound and statement that was unique to her. And equally as important was that the success of "Still A Thrill" at US R&B radio stations and in the UK in general helped to bridge the lag time that US top 40 stations took to catch on to "New Love" and further allowed MCA to release the follow up singles "Don't You Want Me" and "Some Kind Of Lover" to US top 40 radio, US R&B radio, and the UK simultaneously and not only take advantage of Watley's post-Shalamar popuarity but to propel it even further and faster to what ultimately would result in Watley's multi-platinum "Larger Than Life" LP... and cementing Watley's status as a bona-fide diva at R&B, at top 40 and in the clubs - in America and abroad.
