In my opinion, the first release on Art Of Perception (Maral Salmassi's Warhammer 40.000 soundtrack label) is still the best one so far. Johannes Heil and Kim Cascone deliver two tracks each that vary vastly soundwise, yet really capture the sinister, wartorn feel of the Warhammer universe, something that sadly hasn't always turned out to be the case on a good deal of the label's other releases.

Heil's offerings, "The Attack" and "Introduction", go for full-on doomsday techno mayhem, with slow, relentlessy pounding, militaristic kickdrums, evil vocodered vocals and those characteristic, fierce synth lashings. Cascone's offerings on the other hand, "Polygon Witch" and "Tangent Clusters", are tripped out, psychotic ambient soundscapes that really mess with your head. Representing the calm before the storm perhaps? Or the aftermath of the battle?

Thumbs up.
