The album came in a brown paper sleeve to obscure the nude cover. Original pressings were also sealed with a white circular sticker. This can often be used to distinguish an original from a bootleg pressing, as it was a heavily bootlegged release.

On 11 Dec 1968 just after midnight, J&Y appeared live on the radio program "Night Ride" to promote Two Virgins, hosted by David Peel.

On 3 Jan 1969, Newark, NJ police seized 30,000 imported copies of Two Virgins, declaring the cover pornographic.

On 25 Jan 1969, Two Virgins was banned in both Union County, NJ and Cleveland, OH. Police in Monutainside, NJ seized 20,000 copies of the album.

Pressed and distributed through comedian Bill Cosby's Tetragrammaton Records in the US as a joint Apple/Tetragrammaton release after Capitol Records refused to release the album.
