While I enjoy the first Home Alone I've always found the sequel to be bigger in scope and John Williams famous music expands beyond the parameters of his Oscar-nominated effort on the original. Not only does he bring back his wonderful themes but greatly expands on them with a bunch of new Christmas carols with delightfully festive melodies. Exactly why these are not piped into shopping malls in December instead of the usual cut-and-paste crap is sheer madness. Even smaller moments like the McAllister's passing Kevin's bag along and back on the queue at baggage reclaim get their own quirky little theme. And, everyone's favorite moment, "Setting the Trap" is fuller and longer in the sequel. It's the Home Alone version of the "suiting up" scene from Commando.

As with any Christmas-themed product though, you can only enjoy it at a certain time of year but if you play any random carol from this album it will greatly enhance your holiday spirit. The Varese Sarabande from 2002 was a limited edition of 3000 copies and is 99 minutes of Christmas magic that every household needs play on a loop for the entire month of December.
