referencing In Cold Blood, 12", Album + LP, ROSE 18, ROSE 18 A
There's 4 releases of In Cold Blood by JT if you include the single that came out in 1983 which was released by french label New Rose. The single's b side is a live version probably taken from the live album which accompanied the 12" studio 12" included which tried to milk it into a double album. I bought this on its release in 1983. And I can honestly say you stay away from this release because the live album was terrible. I know the 12" has been released on its own but I don't know which came first?
I've read a Thunders interview where he said he was well pissed off with the record company for releasing the live album without his permission. It was recorded I Cambridge when JT was not on form. It was a lousy gig. Thunders had disappeared from the UK in the 70's and nobody knew if he was alive or dead. Then with the release of the classic live album DTK live at the Speakeasy released by jungle records in 1982. People began to take interest again. Around 1983 Thunders' new manager tried to get him straight for a comeback with the hope of following up his fantastic underrated first so album 'So Alone' (1978) with a 2nd solo album with Stones producer Jimmy Miller. Unfortunately things didn't pan out with both artist and producer string out on smack they only managed to get a 12" out of the sessions which new rode records released with a bad live recording which was not going to be a great recording comeback. However I've just noticed this year that Johnny Thunders did record a lot more than what was initially released on the 12 inch vinyl of In Cold Blood. Easy Action Records have unearthed more leftover tracks from the Jimmy Miller sessions what was intended to be his second solo but was abandoned. You can now get a double cd of the the studio tracks with extra and different mixes of the 12 " and another live cd. This time a better concert with punk luminaries Glen Matlock (I think on bass?) and Steve New on Guitar both from the Rich Kids. If I was gonna buy imIn Cold Blood by Johnny Thunders. I would definitely buy this one. Eventually Thunders did release his 2nd proper studio album on jungle records called Que Sera Sera which he also covers the Doris Day song as a single with Gen Matlock on bass again. His last studio album has to be the best cover album of all time 'Copy Cats by Johnny Thunders & Patti Palladin. Sadly after writing new songs and touring extensively Thunders died in 1991 before he got a chance to record them in New Orleans with fellow band mate Jerry Nolan on drums again. There are studio versions of the songs on the cd Sticks and Stones but they were just a soundboard rough recording. Had he lived he would have recorded a fantastic studio album with the best musicians from New Orleans. Strangely fellow music acquaintance Willie de Ville lived right next door to the hotel Thunders died and he didn't know he was staying there or that DeVille lived there. But it was strange when Lech Kowalski asked De Ville how did you get hold of that Johnny Thunders item in the movie The Last Rock'n'Roll Movie. Wille de Ville just said "Hey man I don't wanna get into that. Buy The new Double cd of In Cold Blood on easy action records. Au Revoir ;-)
