from my Italian Progressive Rock reissue explosion Part 2 feature in Audion 23 (Nov.1992)
Jumbo were originally a heavy blues rock band on their debut, however their third: VIETATO AI MINORI DI ANNI 18? saw a complete change in direction, onto a very inventive and unusual progressive rock. As an album it is very strangely organised: saturated lyrically at the start and very intensive musically too - sounding very angry. Thereon the complexities build with dynamic interaction of classical and jazz elements, further steps into the realms of the avant-garde are aided by Franco Battiato and Aktuala members. The initial reaction can be numbing, yet Jumbo offer a fascinating trip into a most unique rock music. De De Lind in comparison are a lot more conventional, yet their IO NON SO DA DOVE VENGO... is no less extraordinary, being a very complex flute, guitar and keyboard fronted rock of great dexterity and imagination, a fiery invention comparable to King Crimson, yet with all you'd expect from a legendary Italian act.
