I'm surprised that, until now, there was no review of this mix. It came out at a time when Junior Vasquez was the undisputed king of the American house music scene courtesy of his legendary Sound Factory residency in New York. After releasing "Get Your Hands Off My Man" on the Tribal label he was tasked with mixing a "sound of" mix which you see here. It showcases much of what was great about one of the most important labels in house music history - fresh, tribal-infused house with a big room vibe.

It features some of Danny Tenaglia, The Daou, Eric Kupper, and Vasquez's earliest and most memorable releases put together in a style which Vasquez was best know, chopping between different versions of a track and switching effortlessly between styles - from the deep grooves of Eric Kupper's K-Scope project, the camp vocals of Misbehavin's "Hot Little Body", the truly haunting "Are You Satisfied" by the Daou, and to the dark and nasty tribal sounds of Junior Vasquez "X" and Danny Tenaglia "Bottom Heavy".

As a showcase of the peak of New York sound of the early-mid 90s there are few compilations that come close to topping this - the sleaze and sweat and 6am anthems here are some of the best moments of the era.
