On a slightly different subject, I have now purchased two copies of this release and would like to offer my comment on the pressing quality. Both my copies had visible and audible scratches on several tracks on both sides right out of the package. Indeed the record sounds lovely, better than the Tapestry "release" I also own, but it's a shame that the quality control could not be better. I'm invested to the tune of $90 without a keeper copy yet....

This is a really nice reissue. I'm happy with the sound quality on this one and the pressing is clean as well. Definitely recommended.

This pressing does sound really good and well balanced. Great pressing quality, too. I enjoy listening to this more than any of the new CD reissues.

A decent reissue.
Although I doubt this to be fully analog like the hype sticker suggests its not unlistenable by any means.
What could be bettered however is in expanding tge spectrum of sound used. The low end especially seems to be underutilized and hence makes makes aspects like vocals somewhat thin and brittle.
Especially has they exhibit some sibilant S's to boot.
Likewise when the soundstage gets busy we lose some control and separation.
The pressing however is quiet for the most part which is great for GZ.
The booklet is also a nice extra, but I really do wonder how the 2018 reissue and first press compares.

Equipment Used:
Rega RP1 with Nagaoka MP-200 Cartridge
Cyrus 2 Amplifier
System Fidelity SF-3050 Tower Speakers
Custom made HQ Speaker Cables

In responce to the comment below regarding the mastering of this issue. We oversaw the repackaging and remastering of this LP on behalf of Kaleidoscope Sounds. After reading these dissapointing comments we would like to set the record straight.

Remastering was done by one of the most respected underground artists on the scene Spaceman 3, if you would read the sleeve notes, 3 years was spent tracking down the master tapes. If you look on the bands facebook page you will see the singer and drummer holding some of the original master tapes from the album. Its very upsetting to hear that a bootleg copy from 20 years ago is considered sonically superior to this 1st official re-issue of the lp which has been sourced unequivocally from the master tapes, from that we have improved sonic imperfections from the master. For example in the track 'Dive into yesterday' the original had a dip in the music at the 1.36 mark, under the bands direct guidance Pete Kember has doctered the slight dip [that has niggled the band for 50 years] to sonically enhance the listeners experience. We hope this clears up any dispute regarding the mastering of this masterpiece.

This official release is endorsed by the band, and that's great… but sorry, my 2002 vinyl bootleg copy sounds punchier and clearer ! This official reissue sounds flat and thin, so I really doubt it has been mastered from the original tapes…

I agree with cadjal712 : the pressing doesn't sound too 'hot'... although the vinyl is nice and silent , on my copy , anyway.
Has this something to do with remastering or the cutting stage or the quality of the copy master ?
The 5 Hours Back pressing is very slightly 'sharper' or clearer , compared to this issue.
I've never heard an original stereo pressing.
The only issue I've heard of it on cd is the Repertoire CD re-issue from circa 2006 , which , although not an accurate way to compare against re-issue vinyl , seems sonically clearer as well.
How about an official re-press of the Mono mix ? (does anyone know for sure if its a dedicated mix or a 'fold-down' ?)... there doesn't seem to have been one yet : just the bootleg. I heard an original Mono a few times many years ago and it had a bit more 'bite' to it , to my ears , anyway.

Vinyl reissue pressing is sourced from a digital master, not directly from the tape. Pressing is not cut very hot and does not sound nearly as good or dynamic as an original Fontana or 5 Hours Back reissue pressing
