Two debutants on the ever prolific Skullline, a label always dedicated to dig upon the scattered remains from post industrial culture with the perennial intention to find something to blow a mind or two. The nominated ones are Karma Marata from Germany accompanied by Italian Kristian Giorgini in the traditional design of split release that the label has specialized in.

The combination of the two is kind of a contrast, even though they may have a set of minimum characteristics that could link them. While Karma Marata employs a formula of post industrial structures marked by a background of tribal rhythms synchronized upon machine sounds and military rhythms spiced with Neoclassical instrumentation and perhaps a strong influence from German cold wave, Kristian Giorgini brings a cold romantic Electro formation with minimal Neoclassical and as expected some Military background.

They both meet in that Military aspect, even if it is expressed meekly during most of both records that (must be said) are independent from each other even though they are split in just one CD. Perhaps they also find similarities in the romantic aspect from the expression and part of the content, both appealing to call from different lyrical forms to the same direction, a call for the past using the irony of electronic formations.

Karma Marata is agile and dedicated in its demonstration, the post industrial structures beautifully recreate a world commanded by a tribal beat that is both made by machines and Military percussion with a dark atmosphere made of synthesized arrangements (Piano, Violins) that shows a strong influence from Neoclassical and German cold wave, standing out the first track “In Ihren Augen Stirbt Die Welt”. I like the carefulness of the compositions, the details employed to accompany the melody such as interesting layers and effects and above all the strong impulse and vitality given by live percussions as example in track “Euer Brennend gott”. The distorted blasts in “Felder von blut und eisen” its also another detail that grants this special touch to this band. Kristian giorgini somehow presents a classier electro, romantic and gelid, even though mid paced in rhythm and neoclassical arrangements. His lyrics wander in the protest against modern world and the conjunction on the last track along with Karma Marata is perhaps the more remarkable track, combining the cold synthesis of electro with subtle touches of Neoclassical and the pounding power from martial percussion. In the end we have an interesting combo here, with a contrasting combination of styles and original articulation of sound.

I must say that Skullline has the ability to find curious bands with a common direction and in this case Karma Marata along with Kristian Giorgini may impress the listener with something a bit different from the norm and with a smart sense for combination.
