I've played this on my stereo and have not heard any problems at all (as described below). This is an album that definitely sounds better on vinyl too. It was $50 when it first came out and I would visit it at the record store until I finally bought it on sale. I am glad I have this and glad to hear it on vinyl. I think this is her best album. Her vocals here are much more mature and complimentary to the music. Some of her early work would actually get on my nerves after a while but not this album. Great album. Great Double Album to be exact. I am sure they will re-release this on vinyl again as it is a major turning point in her work. It will be revisited and celebrated for years to come.

Save your bread and buy the CD version for $8.00 with shipping. Gains=Good sound )way more detail than vinyl when volume adjusted via your volume control) no distortion, losses- Artwork is small and hard to read, may not have player for reproduction in the future, Are the losses really worth $200 + to you?

Whether you hear the distortion or not depends on your pickup/tonearm combination. When it came out I was listening with an Van den Hul DDT II on my Clearaudio Unify and had heavy distortion. Now I'm running a Lyra Delos and Aerial plays just fine.

Just picked this vinyl LP up at a car boot sale last weekend for two pounds, someone told me to check it here.
I'm shocked!

Could someone elaborate how this "unlistenable" distortion manifests itself? Apart from a slight loss of focus in the soundstage in Coral Room when listening very analytically, I really don't hear anything wrong... Maybe it's hit and miss...?

Unfortunately the 2nd album can have problems as well. The first side has some distortion in track C2, Prologue. From comments elsewhere I am aware that mine is not an isolated problem. Definitely time for a good repressing.

This currently costs a small fortune on vinyl. REALLLY needs a reissue! Everyone wants $200 for it (minimum it seems). Just be forewarned that the super-expensive sealed copy you are buying will most likely have some radical distortion on the first disc - "A Sea of Honey". No one will tell you about it because 1.) It's still sealed 2.) It was only played once and they can't remember OR 3.) They don't own a record player and can't tell you but still…sell an organ please and fork over the cash! Fun aside, this was a known issue when it came out and was never corrected as far as I know. My copy has severe mistracking on Side B of the first album.

The second album "A Sky of Honey" faired much better in regard to noise and distortion in most reviews I've read, and yes, it IS worth it for that alone. Now choose a kidney.
