This is a Trip was the one that got the most air time - probably as it was the slickest to mix. That said, the AA1 and AA2 on the flip were the more sophisticated productions. Let's turn it Out gives us a sneak of the pad driven sound that was to become ' intelligent' or 'liquid' or 'atmospheric' dnb... Eloquence tells a different story - letting us know that dnb may have had a hip hop and breakbeat founding, but owes a lot to the mechanical angles of techno. I'm guessing this was a late '92 track. Sounds moved so quickly back in the early 90s, producers experimenting with their kit, getting a track or two out every week to acetate/dub- every other track was a new vibe. You had to be there on the dance floor to experience what it was like to hear a killer fresh track... sometimes the floor just stood still, stunned because of a new sound. A golden age.

This was one of my favourite tunes in my record box in '92.

When Kev returned from the studio with this EP I was once again over the moon with the tunes. Kev always knew exactly what buttons to press at the exact time capturing the sound of the Rave and nudging it forward at the same time.
'This is a Trip' was being battered across the UK within a couple of weeks of the Promos going out and reached Anthem status. Once again the two AA tracks got overlooked at first bar a few DJs. Once again when 'This is a Trip' started to fade away 'Let's Turn It Out' and 'Eloquence (my fave track on this ep) were getting a lot of play.

Love this track ! I love the way the percussion " skips " along in the intro , and indeed through the rest of the track . Though the ultimate old-skool high MUST be that break ! Those chords.. that BASS.. then that Jack " Basement " Smooth percussion again . Absolute bliss .

February 25, 2021Technicalities aside, this is an absolute Kev Bird / Jack Smooth monster. The main riff is so simple, but yet utterly unforgettable.
