Like the title suggests, "Radiowaves II" is meant to be a sequel to the classic "Radiowaves" album from 1995. However, a lot has changed in the sound of Khan & Walker between the release of the two records. At this point, both Khan and Walker were moving from experimental acid and ambient towards a more electro and breaks influenced style, and this can be heard on "Radiowaves II". The album still some of the ambient background drones that invoke the image of distant radiowaves heard in the aether, but the 303s and liquid synths of the first album are mostly gone, replaced by electro beats and basslines. "Shortwaves VI" even features a rock guitar sample and some scratching! The beats are pleasant enough, and this is not by any means a bad album, but unfortunately Khan & Walker's new sound is still more reminiscent of stereotypical 90s electro and less unique in the way the first "Radiowaves" was. If you like a bit of experimental electro, "Radiowaves II" is well worth checking out, but if you're looking for a continuation of the original "Radiowaves" sound, you should instead listen to "Empire State Building", also released in 1997. That album is a truer sequel to "Radiowaves" than this one.
