THE LAB RATS are a band you can't label. Not even if you tried. They escape being pigeon holed. But their music is inspired, original and exciting. Earthly ambient, employing Moog's, tape loops and violins.

It is my opinion that Labradford are the measuring instrument for gauging a qualitative analysis of elements we know nothing about.

"Pico" will have you digging out "Wish You Were Here" in short order. "The Cipher" is a three minute ambient piece chronicling what life might be like in environmental terms somewhere out there. The album is half instrument and half spoken, mostly spoken. The words for the most part are indistinguishable behind a heart pumping din with a lead instrument poking thru (either the violin - or as before, and most certainly their trademark sound, the multi-Moog god: Carter Brown) every now and then. "Battered," my favorite song on the record, displays Mark Nelson's atmospheric guitars so cool, so smooth. Think of a more restrained SCENIC (Bruce Licher), less bent on popish melody more studied and geared towards atmospheric layers.
