This CD is a rather good record. "International" from the British producer Laidback came out in 1997, at the time when electronic music was at its peak in the United Kingdom. The intro "Album Tracking", the following "Rock Your World", "Wrecktify" and my personal favorite "Wobble" are in my opinion the highlights here.
There are several styles of electronic music used through this record.
For instance, "Hip-Hop Loves You" uses rather downtempo beats and scratches, while "Coldrock" mixes the breakbeat with horn samples and "Launch The Raunch" contains electric guitar riffs and hip-hop scratches too.
The ensemble is groovy and coherent, in spite of being annoying at times, especially with "Knock Knock" which contains unpleasant noises and "International" which is a disco house track, that I personally don't like.
To sum up, "International" is a CD of background music which doesn't need an in-depth analysis by the ears. To be honest, I wasn't satisfied at the first listen, nevertheless this album has grown on me since then.
In addition to "International", I suggest you two other albums which are on the same record label as "International", namely Bolshi Records, and which are closer to the breakbeat genre :
- Rasmus : Mass Hysteria (1998)
- LHB : Dig, You May Find A Friend (1999)
Have fun !
