Lawrence returns to Dial for FILMS AND WINDOWS, a step away from the ambient explorations of his previous album, though you wouldn't know it from "The Opening Scene." But "Marlen" quickly returns the listener to house territory, albeit the deep, melodic house that Lawrence is known for. The continual lightness of "In Patagonia" contrasts with the angular breaks of the title track that slowly coalesce into a warm glow. "Etoile du Midi" gets slightly more upbeat, though Lawrence has never been interested in making club bangers. Instead, his compositions are more thoughtful. Even a more straightforward house track like "Lucifer" seems made for home listening, even as "Kurama" descends into a chilly minimalism. "Angels at Night" brings back the meldoic complexity, as does the sparse, whirling "Har Sinai." And after "Creator (Final Call) finds its way into that emotive moment of house, "Teenage Barb" ends the album on a dreamy note. This is an album definitely worth watching.

I really like this record and Lawrence is great, but am sad because mine has non-fill all over the C/D side, especially on the title track, which makes it unlistenable :(
