Lawrence's self-titled debut is made up of 15 untitled tracks, a sort of anonymity which lends itself to the minimal nature of the tracks, as "1" shifts briefly from ambient twinkles into a deeper tech-house. "2" continues that feel, adding a slightly atonal music box-like melody, but "3" switches things up for a warmer sound. A high-low distinction comes to the fore in "5," while "6" slips into a strange, aimless downtempo noir. Lawrence likes to juxtapose more ambient tracks with upbeat tracks -- sometimes blending the two. For instance, as things pick back up with the crisp "7," the thick dissonance of "8" help slow things back down to the squelches of "9." But it seems as if he's much more at home with the mellow, contemplative house of "10," as his work would continue to go in that direction. But it's the jittery, cut-up tones of "11" which stand out most on the album, a careful examination of texture and pattern, still set within a solid groove. "15" ends the album on more music box tech-house, but it's a strong summation of the pleasures of this album.
