The timeless romanticism and elegance of Lawrence is just one of the best thing that ever happened to (electronic) music in the 2000s. "The Absence Of Blight" is the proof. Also, the haunting photographies made by Anna Möller, which are the cover-arts of a lot of Lawrence's releases, add a perfect mood to the foggy and mysterious sound of Lawrence.

I love how the sound here is treated in a dusty way, how the melody is created in a warm and naive manner. A bit like the smile on our face when we find a treasure from the past in the corner of the attic. This aesthetics sounds like an ode to frailty, a proof that lo-fi sounding reveals the deepest beauty of things. We could present this piece of art in a few years to our new generations and say "Listen, this is what we used to do with our computers, it is what beauty was like before HD's era."

A sensitive and delicate thing.

Definitely my favorite dial release.
Lawrence create here anxious, melancholic melodies with deep bases.
I never tire of listening to a track like "If You Can't Understand".
Thank you Peter !

Cool and shimmering technoscapes from Lawrence on his album THE ABSENCE OF BLIGHT. Though much more rhythm-oriented than some of his earlier work, the emphasis still remains on the overarching atmosphere. So the tinkling sounds on "Shelter" are grounded by the bass as the track develops, and the moodiness of "-" is unabated by the beat. "Lost Friday" has a cheery melancholy punctuated by a slow build and a chorale effect underlining the track. Though the overall mellowness of the album may be at times soporific, the low tones on "Neighbothood" will pull you from your sleep. A complex and engaging album, at once abstract and compelling, especially the arch and archaic ending track, "Somebody Hold Me." Recommended.
