Oh my... the A-side on this didn't quite do it for me, but the "Re Mix" version on the flip is quite another story! This was an obscure tip from a Paradise Garage regular, and boy, does it ever fit the bill. This is one of those records that's in 2012 STILL clawing and scratching its way to the decks of biggest, bassiest system it can find. It has the total Sly & Robbie production sound as processed through the mind of Larry Levan; that is to say, slowly percolating 80s synthesizer disco with a bold dub awareness and a willingness to play. The flip is probably better considered a dub mix with its synth-bass workout and occasional guitars, and a keyboard line that just lilts its way in and out.... and then there's the clave... and then the minimized vocal refrain. A close-your-eyes-and-nod-your-head jam if there ever was one. Stunning!
