This is a great classic of Latin-American folk music, recorded in 1959 by what was in its day a famous world-touring group led by Francisco Marin. This is `musica criolla' played and sung as it ought to be, with great taste and in the traditional way.

Although the `Malaguena Salerosa' (surely the best recording ever made of it) is a Mexican piece, the group's music is essentially in the South American peasant style, stemming from the Andean plateaux, Argentina and Paraguay and following the Inca folk tradition. If you want to hear the original un-messed-about versions of this kind of music, look no further. Los Guaranis did it 50 years ago and it has never been bettered.
