(Lost 80s soul classics #2)

Sure, that's pretty much Lillo Thomas' entire 80s output! Who knows what he's up to now, but for some of us this one-time track athlete and world record holder (check the biog) is a too often forgotten star of the 80s, mainly down to some great Paul Laurence (Lawrence/Lawrence Jones/etc) productions. (And yes, I know there are quite a few of us out there!)

...And this is probably the best! Catchy song with lovely big chords and a superb rhythm that refuses to play 'on the beat' - which pretty much makes a mockery of Broken Beat some, what, 20 years later? Zack Vaz's mix expertly breaks in unexpected places (namely just before the first chorus) and adds to the delight of the tune.

I first heard this track on a Now Dance compilation. Yep, seems crazy now to think that a 'Now That's What I Call Music' compilation could actually educate you to something you hadn't heard before! (It also included Aurra's Like I Like It before You And Me Tonight really broke them in the UK Top 40. Now we're talking...!)
