The u.s. ' southern rock ' band Lynyrd Skynyrd scored already in the first half of the 1970s hits with Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird, numbers that in 2003 are still regularly played on the radio. The end of Lynyrd Skynyrd seemed near in a plane crash in 1977 when three of the six band members died. The three remaining members of the party in 1987, however, were yet again at the reestablishment of the band. The place of the fallen singer Ronnie Van Zant was taken by his younger brother Johnny, who has just turned out to have such a fine sandpaper voice. The first albums of the ' new ' Lynyrd Skynyrd fell high rather against. This is one of the reasons why we were positively surprised by the new album Vicious Cycle, that exactly thirty years after the legendary debut, Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd (1973) appears. It concerns namely by far the best cd since the reestablishment of the band. The characteristic Lynyrd Skynyrd sound with three lead-guitarists is back and still stands as a House. On Vicious Cycle are fourteen excellent new songs, including the funky Dead Man Walking, the sturdy All Funked Up, a strong remake of the classic Lynyrd Skynyrd-Gimme Back My Bullets (with Kid Rock) and the beautiful ballad & Blue Red White, for which someone like Jon Bon Jovi a murder would.
