Mas 2008’s second album, PUNISHED BY MACHINES, is a marked improvement over their first. For one thing, there’s a more pronounced sense of rhythm. Listen to the moody, funky breaks of the title track. And for another, there’s an appealing darkness that permeates the album, as if the machines have really taken over. The dystopian groove of “U Can’t Emulate a Soul” or the Detroit-influences of “Journey To Tomorrow” show a real development in their sound. The aggressive stomp of “Wasted” gives this album even more of a personality and cohesion. Heck, even the 80s electro throwback of “World’s Passing By” seems to fit in. A welcome movement forward.

Tough electro fused with ambient symphonics, diagonal drum patterns and an excellent ability to create vast, wide sound spaces. It has strength, impact, and soul.
