MC Solaar's "Prose Combat" must be about my favourite hip hop album. Why? First of all there is the complete lack of attitude, the bling! bling! and all those other bitch-better-have-my-money-or-I'll-slap-her-with-my-.38 tendencies. Instead Solaar takes it on an emotional, atmospheric introspective into his everyday life and surroundings with - the necessary? - relativism and critic on society. All inspiration comes straight from the heart, soul and the street. The grooves, beats and flows really fit together. The result is rather a very cohesive 'painting' instead of a musical expression. This album instantly puts a gentle smile on my face. Always. Merci petit français, t'as bien fait.
