I get the impression that Demarco is showing us how much he's growing, and this album is really a way for him to come to terms with relationships he's never got to experience.

That said, This Old Dog is more dower, less funky, and less fun. Instead of Demarco's "jizz-jazz" and the exuberant-yet-casual attitude that comes with it, the tracks here are a bit too muted, and a bit too similar. Some tracks feel a lot shorter than they should be, and Moonlight On The River goes on for far too long.

My opinion might change once I listen to This Old Dog again, but so far I think it drags behind his previous albums like Salad Days or his EP Another One.
