The best tracks on this album are the ones that are most derivative of Cuban ethnic music and least similar to Mala's dubstep background (e.g. "Como Como"). In other tracks, Mala's idea of a Cuban influence is adding some Latin-sounding percussion. I don't understand why this is so highly rated when most of the tracks come off as lazy and uneventful. Seems like Mala came up with perhaps 5 strong Cuban-based tracks, and then came up with an additional 1/2 hour of filler in order to turn it into an album.

I love that most of these desperate sellers who were initially trying to make money from this sought after release have fell on their arse coz they released the gatefold.. It's now on offer at red eye records for 12.99£

Aww, condolences to the lazy sellers constantly trying to list the *gatefold edition* for sale in the Marketplace of the *box set*, and getting their listings ended. Stop relying on the community and make a new listing for the gatefold yourself; don't you want to sell it? :)

Sorry to everyone who couldn't get the In Cuba Box set.  Brownswood are re-issuing the album in a 4 piece gatefold edition. More news soon.

Taken from one of the picture innersleeves:
"If you sail north from Jamaica, within a few hundred miles or so - just next door in oceanic terms - you hit Cuba. Yet in many ways they're quite different, especially musically. In the 1960s, Mala's father left Jamaica for a rainy island in Northern Europe. Then in 2011, under the wing of Gilles Peterson and Havana-Cultura.com (the island's online gateway to its rich cultural heritage) Mala returned to the region to try an experiment: to see what happened if an Anglo-Jamaican dubstep producer with one of the most individual and innate senses of both rhythm and who he is as an artist, began to soak up Cuban culture and make an album."

All this day I have spend driving at job and playing Mala in Cuba on car stereo. Excitement and gratefulness is what I feel for this artist and album. For a long time somehow i feel shame about dubstep, but Mala showed us that true dubstep album is still possible 2012. No "porn music" (in meaning on easy catch) here!!! And yes, Gilles Peterson's ghost is present all around and I'm asking myself who is ghost writer - Peterson or Mala?!

Can't believe people are selling this for practically double the price already. The complete opposite of what Mala is about.
