Manu Dibango – Soul Makossa
Genre:
Style:
Year:
Notes:
The tune "Soul Makossa" by Mighty Tom Cats found on 45rpm Soul Makossa / Tom Cat Reggay & also LP Soul Makossa seems to be a bootleg of the original Manu Dibango version found on 45rpm Soul Makossa / Lily & also LP Soul Makossa - When comparing the audio A/B from both tracks & artists they are similar in length and verbatim in drum beats, vocals as well as all of the percussive effects. So this is not a cover by the Mighty Tom Cats but rip off going by a studio house name. The lack of any song credits on the LP is what makes it more suspect. Notably the 45rpm via Mighty Tom Cats finally shows credits for A side re: Di Bango & the B side track “Tom Cat Reggay” re: Ann Winley & Paul Winley.

I have this Monarch pressing, the Presswell pressing, and the Richmond pressing. This Monarch pressing is my favorite of the pressings I have. It's like I'm hearing this album for the first time with my ears unclogged and it's giving me a whole new appreciation. The others weren't bad. This is just next level to me though. Hope to come across the Specialty pressing and see how it compares.

such an amazing album, musically it deserves to be like a $500 album easily, we're so lucky a lot were pressed up and kept circulating.
