Manual's second album, ASCEND, continues in his calm electronica vein, as "Midnight Is Where The Day Begins" fills up with sound until it's pregnant with promise and the guitar swoons over itself. "Astoria" has a similar hazy feel, a soft-focus wandering. The guitar on "Out For The Summer" gives that track a little more guidance, but "Cassy" once again rises upward, aimlessly, like a plastic bag caught in an updraft above a highway, even as the rhythm sends it pounding around. Meanwhile, "The Distance" sounds like a far-off mirage, wavering, but "A.M." returns things to a more even keel. "As The Moon Spins Around" provides a quiet elegance and its silences spill into "Keeps Coming Back." Some beautiful melodies, but also a bit unfocused.

NOt as endearing as until tomorrow. It sounds like there's been a lot of progress made with the gear and learning it. but that's I think, why I don't like this as much. I love what's going on, the ideas and such, just needs more, or maybe even less.
