Bland, boring and bad. My guess is that a decade ago I'd be already sleeping with the fish for even thinking that the man who runs One Thousand Records, Zenit Records, and hides behind the Question moniker is anywhere near substandard, but his latest on the legendary Plus 8 imprint leaves me no other choice.
Living proof of how big names don't necessarily add up to their fame, because Marco Carola delivers uninspiring minimal techno which cannot cast a shadown on his own former self.
There is no energy, not even the slightest attempt to keep the listener interested throughout these tracks. Heaps of bleeps and blops, clicks and clacks - all of which have absolutely no discernable purpose or meaning. I don't mind minimal, or any of its characteristics, but when producers ditch groove, drive and a relative sense of rhythm from their work, this formula of eight minute tracks rolling on "thin" and subtle percussion is annoying, you know?
At best, this one sounds like mr. Carola recording a soundtrack for his grandparents' 40th marriage anniversary.
If you're eager to hear a spot on minimal state of the art release on the once flourishing Plus 8, then please do check out Alex Under's "Collage EP". Forget this one.
