In 1986 bassist Marcus Miller wrote the music for Tutu by Miles Davis, an album that he also produced. At the time of the recordings was the Apartheid still rampant in South Africa, was the fashion dominated by shoulder pads, usually combined with rolled up sleeves, and music was dominated by the hard knocks coming from a drum machine. Miller knew this atmosphere perfect to combine with the thin sound of Davis ' trumpet. If the drum machine sound of the 1980s really dated not more, twenty-five years later, the spatial jazz funk of Tutu still relevant. Time for an update. To this end, Miller suggested a band together with musicians who at the time of Tutu probably still in their diapers milling about. The main role goes to trumpeter Christian Scott who observes the honours for Davis. Drummer Ronald Bruner Jr. plays just as tight as the mechanical drum box of the original. Keyboard player Federico Gonzalez Pena is the depositing of warm sound carpets and saxophonist Alex Han is a worthy counterweight for Scott's flamboyant game. Tutu Revisited lets hear how Tutu anno now should sound: a lot more vivid and funkier.
