One could argue that Marilyn Manson had a few brilliant singles before they lost their humour and somehow got mixed up with the late 90s/early 00s New Metal movement (and lost bassist/guitar player/co-songwriter Twiggy Ramirez along the way). There were the simple but effective The Beautiful People, the creepy Tourniquet and their classic cover of Eurythmics Sweet Dreams. But if it all comes down to one song, I would definitely choose I don't like the Drugs (but the Drugs like me) as their best song.

Although the brilliant Mechanical Animals, the album this single is from, is a very sad record, it is this song that shows the weird humour that was still apparent at this time. The music itself has some sort of drowsy quality which only complements the stuff Manson is singing here. He sure was in a very self-reflexive mood when he wrote lines like "There's a hole in our soul that we fill with dope. And we're feeling fine." Sounds depressing? But like I said, that is just one side of the medal because this song is pure pop. Upbeat GLAM pop, even! It's catchy, it has some gospel singing in the back, and Dave Navarro, another massive crackhead, contributes a guitar solo - must have been a lot of fun in the studio!
