Don't hesitate: if there is an album out there that blends any folk style in the whole universe with electronica, this is it. The very missed and extremely talented Martyn Bennett arranged, at 23, everything that sounds in these songs, showing that he respected and knew folklore, but also he knew how to put drum 'n bass or trip-hop on it like no one else: unlike experiments like Afro Celt Sound System, there isn't sense of loops in these songs. Everything sounds organic, alive, tender, subversive and beautiful, from spoken word to sitars, violins, flutes, and difficult and surprising twists like the 6/8 drum'n bass in "Waltz for Hector". Believe me: no one has been able to do these things as good as Bennett, even himself, like he did in "Bothy Culture". More than recommended: a masterpiece that everyone should listen.
