An absolutely great double lp that contains some of the first recordings of two bands from the early Austrian avant garde. In fact the Reform Art Unit is more a collective than a group and members of the Masters Of Unorthodox Jazz will often play with the R A U after this release. Obviously the lp of the Masters Of Unorthodox jazz was scheduled to be on ESP but it never happened.
The music of Masters of Unorthodox jazz is between the european and american tradition of this period, free but with some intelligent moments, notice the bassoon of Allaeddin Adlernest who is one of the important voices of this band. The second lp (from the R A U) confirm the oriental influences on this band. Fritz Novotny often plays flute in a oriental, mystical mood. The tracks have often a dreamy, mysterious vibration.
Rare, expensive but a masterpiece, never reissued in any format.
